In the New Year 2014, we believe and pray that you will see favor, both from God and from man. The saints in the scriptures received favor that made them great in this earth. What does the Bible say about favor? Proverbs 8: 34 and 35 says, ” Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life. And obtains favor from the Lord.” Listening to God, praying and waiting upon the Lord enables us to receive favor in life. The people who take the time with God in His word and prayer are the ones that receive favor. Proverbs 11: 27, “He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, But trouble will come to him who seeks evil.”
Who receives the favor of God?
1. One who keeps the Word of God
God wants us to remember Him in all our ways. He wants us to not just read His word but to follow them. Pro 3: 1-4 My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man. Notice the word, ‘in the sight of God and man.’ Joshua was a man who became great thoughout the country. Think about that. If God did that for Joshua, He will do it for us too. Joshua 6: 27 says, “So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout all the country.”
2. One who walks in Righteousness
The Bible talks about how an upright man receives favor. Proverbs 14: 9, “Fools mock at sin, But among the upright there is favor.” Sometimes, thing may look right in our own eyes. But, we need to evaluate in the light of God’s Word. That is when we can say that we have done a righteous act. The Righeous will have favor all over him. Psalm 5:12 12 says, “For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.” When we do good in the sight of the Lord, we obtain favor. Proverbs 12: 2 says, “A good man obtains favor from the Lord, But a man of wicked intentions He will condemn.” In the scriptures we read that Samuel grew in favor from God and man. 1 Samuel 2: 26, “And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favor both with the Lord and men.”
3. One who is a wise Servant
Proverbs 14: 35, ” The king’s favor is toward a wise servant, But his wrath is against him who causes shame.” Proverbs 13: 15, “Good understanding gains favor, But the way of the unfaithful is hard.”
The above verses talk about the king’s favor. Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of Lords. All of us need to become wise servants. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. God will help us make wise choices.
Look at the way Joseph received favor from Pharoah. Gen 41: 38, “And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” When we see the lives of the saints in the Bible, they had an unusual favor. Joseph had favor in the eyes of Pharoah. Acts 7: 10 says, “and delivered him out of all his troubles, and gave him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.” Gen 41: 40-44, “You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you. And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, “Bow the knee!” So he set him over all the land of Egypt. Pharaoh also said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.” This is an unusual favor from God Almighty. Joseph went from a pit to prison to a palace.
Dearly beloved, wherever you are in life, God wants to show His favor to you and His favor is for a life time. Do not worry about what the future holds for you. Your situations change but our God is unchanging.
Promise: Psalm 30: 5, “For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”
May you walk in the favor of God and men in the mighty name of Jesus!
