What we need in our nation is a revival. The nation that once sent missionaries all over the world needs God’s touch. What is ‘Revival?’ The prefix ‘re’ in English means ‘to do again.’ The word ‘vive’ in Latin means ‘life.’ ‘Revival’ would mean ‘to bring to life again.’ You cannot bring back to life again that which was never alive before. Revival is not for the lost souls but for the ones that are alive in Christ. Revival isn’t getting the best preacher to preach a fire and brimstone message to the unrighteous ones. Revival starts with God’s people.
God says in 2 Chronicles 7: 14, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” We notice that to heal the land, God is looking at ‘His people.’ In fact, He is looking for ‘one man to stand in the gap’ to bring a revival in a Nation. Ezekiel 22: 30 says, ‘So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.’ All the revival that is recorded in the Scripture and in History started with one man. The Azusa Revival, Welsh Revival, Moravian Revival and Pensacola Revival began with one man. In the Bible, there was one Moses to stand before God and on behalf of Israel. There was one Abraham to intercede for Sodom and Gomorrah. There was one Nehemiah that built the wall. Will you be that one that God can count on?
WHAT IS YOUR PART IN THE REVIVAL?
When God looks at you, He looks at you as ‘a sower.’ God’s word says in 2 Corinthians 9: 10, “May He who supplies seed to the sower…” God supplies the seed and He expects you to sow. Life is locked up in a seed. Only when you sow, God releases life from the seed. God wants you to take the first step of sowing.
What are the kinds of seeds you need to sow? The first seed you sow is ‘God’s word.’ Luke 8: 11 says that God’s word is the seed. We are to sow God’s word in our hearts each day. John 6: 63 says that God’s word is Spirit and they are life. Also share God’s word whenever God gives you an opportunity. Ecc11: 1 says, “Cast your bread on the waters and you will find it after many days. You will see the fruit.
Secondly, your prayers are called seeds. Psalm 126: 5, 6 says that when we sow in tears, we will reap in joy. Jesus looked at the women that were weeping on His way to Golgotha and encouraged them to weep for themselves and their children. Jesus Himself looked at Jerusalem and wept. Ask God to give you a ‘soul burden.’ When the Lord God Almighty gives you a burden for souls, sowingthe ‘seeds of tears’ won’t be difficult anymore. Your heart becomes so soft and you are ready to cry out. Psalmist said in Psalm 3 :4, “I cried unto the Lord with my voice.” You will become a house of prayer. God wants His house to be a house of prayer for all Nations. When someone walks into your home or your church, they will feel the tangible presence of God that will drive them closer to JESUS. Jeremiah, the great prophet knew it well. In Jeremiah 9: 1, he prays for his head to be full of waters and his eyes to be a fountain of tears, he would pray day and night for the slain daughters of Jerusalem.
Zechariah 10: 1 says, ‘Ask the Lord for rain in the time of the latter rain. The Lord will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, Grass in the field for everyone.” As an answer to the seeds we sow continually, God will do mighty things. First of all, when we repent for the evil deeds of our people and stand in the gap for our Nation, God makes flashing clouds says Zecariah 9: 1. That means, He will make ‘lighting.’ Lighting occurs when the clouds come together. It is electrifying and is frightening to look at. What does that mean in the spiritual sense? Look at Exo 19: 16, When the lightning happened in Mount Sinai, the people ‘trembled.’ This is what our Nation needs. Our nation needs the fear of God. Our Nation needs to be back on her knees. God’s people need reverence and respect for God and commitment forHis work.
Thirdly, with great expectation of revival, we alsosow our talents, our time, our first fruits, our tithes and offerings that become seeds that God will bless and multiply. These are what God has given in your hands. God will never ask from what He has not given you. These are what we sow cheerfully, not grudgingly or out of necessity.
Finally, our life is the ultimate seed that we could possiblysow as recorded inJohn 12: 24 which says unless a grain of wheat dies, it will not produce much grain. Our life needs to be totally surrendered to JESUS. That is when you no longer live for yourself and for this world but, you will live for JESUS. To see Revival needs to become our mission in life.
WHAT DOES GOD DO IN RESPONSE?
When the Lord sees the desperation intear filled prayers and expectation of revival he will send Revival in our communities. We, as God’s people need to be diligently doing our duties in sowing good seeds that will produce that harvest. God makes all things beautiful in its time. God will probably use a vessel that was once useless. Matthew 9: 38 talks about Jesus, the Lord of the harvest. It is not about us and is all about the Lord Jesus and His presence in our communities.
First, we see that God will give showers of rain as we pray according to Zach 10:1. Rain is divided into two categories. The former rain and the latter rain. Former rain comes after the seed is sown. On the Day of Pentecost, the disciples received the latter rain. That is when power of God came upon them. Peter and John went to pray. Even in the midst of threatenings and arrests, they proclaimed the gospel.
Second, as Revival comes we will see churches multiplying, signs and wonders and the people of God will spend more time in His presence. We can expect daily prayer meetings and mighty miracles in our midst. All God’s people would want is JESUS. All they would care about would be to please God.
Third, God promises to give ‘grass in the field.’ Paul says that he planted and Apollos watered but God gave the increase (1 Corinthians 3: 6) It means that God will bring the harvest. JESUS is the Lord of the harvest. In fact, there will be little preaching and more demonstration of God’s power and His glory. Many unbelievers will come to the Lord as they will be convicted of sin in the presence of God
Conclusion: Are you going to be an active participant or a silent spectator? Are you willing to allow God to use you to be a catalyst for Revival?
May God bless you!
