You may be seeking God and wondering what the use of seeking God is. What does God say to us regarding seeking Him? The answer is found in Amos 5: 4 which reads: For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel, “Seek Me and live.”For a man to live, I mean to really live, the formula that God gives is to, “seek God.”It may sound very simple yet we often find ourselves making excuses for not spending time with God. We may sometime find ourselves giving time to many others but not really spending time with our Creator.
Dear friend, David, a man after God’s own heart gives an instruction in his old age to his son Solomon, who turned out to be the wisest man on earth. David would have talked to his son from the bottom of his heart about things that are really worth talking about. In I Chro 28: 9 David says, “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.” God says that if you seek Him, he will be found by you. James 4: 8 says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
Matt 6: 33 says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.” Seeking first the Kingdom of God means to put God first in your life, in your family, in your money matters, going to church on time, keeping God’s work ahead of yours and being committed to your commitments to God in good times and in bad.
Even in seeking God, God wants us to seek Him with our whole heart and those are the people God called blessed. God does not want a halfhearted service. He does not want anyone seeking Him on one side and complaining on the other. Ps 119: 2 says, “Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart!” There was a man whose name was Asa. He sought God with his whole heart. ‘Asa’ means doctor. Our whole nation has a great sickness and that sickness is ‘Godlessness.’ The only treatment that this doctor, Asa prescribes is to “Seek God.” Don’t seek just the earthly, material and temporal things. Begin to seek the Lord with your whole heart.
2 Chro 14: 7 says, “… because we have sought the Lord our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.” Many times, people wonder why their lives are so stressed out. God wants to give you rest from every side and bring prosperity. That is what most of the people need right now, a stress free life with rest from every side. This need for a peaceable life can be met by seeking the Lord.
2 Chro 14: 11, And Asa cried out to the Lord his God and said, “Lord it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God do not let man prevail against You!”
2 Chro 15: 2, “And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you. 2 Chro 15: 4, – when they sought God, God manifested Himself.
2 Chro 15: 12, 13 – Then they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul: whoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel was to be put to death., whether small or great, whether man or woman. All these scriptures insist that we seek God.
When we seek God, we live! On the other hand, we have seen destruction and chaos when people did not seek God. In the United States, they removed prayer and Bible from the public schools. That means, a student cannot read the Bible and pray at school. As a result of which, the students are facing multiple challenges that includes deaths and blood sheds.
On April 20, 1999, two teenagers walked into the Columbine High School in the state of Colorado and murdered a total of 12 students and a teacher. They injured 21 additional people. The pair then committed suicide. A man read the news and asked a pastor why Jesus allowed such a gruesome thing to happen to the innocent kids. The pastor replied, how can God come and do anything in a place that has asked God to stay away by putting His word and prayer out. Oh! How we need God’s protection for our kids. Let us seek God and seek God for our children.
Blessings of seeking God:
There are many blessing of seeking God. Here are a few of them:
1. Our hearts will live:
Ps 69: 32, “The humble shall see this and be glad; And you who seek God, your hearts shall live.” Ps 70: 4 says, “Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; And let those who love Your salvation say continually, “Let God be magnified!” Ps 105: 3 Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! All these verses talk about how our hearts live, and how we could rejoice and be glad in Him when we seek God. There are many film stars who have all the wealth this world could give, yet their hearts do not live and so they live miserable lives and end their lives. But for the ones that seek God, your hearts will rejoice and your heart will be glad. Hallelujah!
2. We get good understanding:
Pro 28: 5 Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the Lord understand all. Oh, how we need understanding! Pro 4: 5 says, “Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.’ Hosea 4: 6,“ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” In the above verses, we read about the knowledge and understanding. All these are hidden in God. When we seek God, the blessing is released and we receive understanding.
3. God’s hand is available to us:
Ps 9: 10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Ezra 8: 22 For I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.” God’s hand is upon all those for good, who seek Him.
When you seek God, God will hold your hand strong. In your weakness, His strength will be made perfect. God will never forsake the one that seeks him. Think about that! You do not have to pray and ask God not to forsake you. As long as you will seek Him, His hand is there to hold you and to do good to you. How marvelous!
4. We will not lack any good thing:
Lion is the king of the jungle. A lion has the ability to kill any animal and eat when he wants. If the little one of a lion is hungry, will he not go out and kill the choice animal and feed to the little one? The Bible says, even if the young lion is hungry and goes without food, God will provide for us if we seek Him. This is an ‘exclusive blessing’ for just one sect of God’s people and those are the “seekers of God” and no one else. This blessing is not all the church goers or all the believers, but for the ones that‘seek God.’ Read Ps 34: 10 which reads: The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.
5. God Himself will be our rewarder:
Once God takes us to a place where we have what we need, we still have to seek Him more. There are so many that will seek God as long as they get what they want. God wants us to seek Him diligently.
There are many kinds of prizes and awards in this world. There are some who get noble prizes. There are some that get awards for their performance. There are medals awarded to the athletes. All these are accomplishments which are good. But all these put together, does not compare to getting a reward from God. Heb 11: 6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Let us diligently seek our God! We are waiting for the LORD to come back soon. His reward is coming with Him. Oh, what a day that will be!
In conclusion, let us meditate Hos 10: 12 which says, “Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the Lord, till He comes and rains righteousness on you.” Note the word, “till.” Till God shows himself strong on behalf of us, we will seek Him. God says it is time to seek the LORD.
May the LORD enable us to seek God diligently in Jesus’ name! Amen.[tell-a-friend id="1" title="Tell a friend"]
