The pure in Heart

[otw_is sidebar=otw-sidebar-3]

Matthew 5: 8 says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.”

The word pure means clean, free from corruption, free from sin and guilt, sincere, genuine, blameless and innocent. In the relationship we have with God, one has to have a single minded devotion to God with nothing interfering or distracting. It is a heart that is no longer divided. Blessed are those upon whom God’s favor rests. It is the pure ones that can experience the presence of God here on earth and spend eternity in Heaven.

The psalmist writes in Psalm 73:1, “Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are pure in heart.”
Luke 19:2 -6,“Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfullyThe meaning of the name Zacchaeus is “pure.” That was just his name. He did not live a pure life initially. It all starts with meeting Jesus. Jesus said that salvation has come to Zacchaeus’s house. Likewise, we need to meet Jesus on a daily basis to live pure lives. We need to invite Him into our life. That is the key to holiness. The Bible says, in 1 John 1: 9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” There is an ‘if’ in that verse. That means holiness is a choice. God is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse. From there we need to grow in holiness. The Bible says, in the final book and the final chapter, “…he who is holy, let him be holy still” (Rev 22: 11). So we need to strive to be more holy.

How can our heart grow in Holiness:

By Faith: Faith comes by hearing the word of God. We need to give importance to hearing the word of God which will lead to faith and which will lead to holiness. Acts 15: 9, “…purifying their hearts by faith.”1 Peter 1: 22, “… you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Holy Spirit in sincere love of the brethren. Love one another fervently with a pure heart.”

By Prayer: After David sinned against God, he prays a prayer of repentance. In Psalm 51: 10, David says, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”1 Tim 4: 5 says, “for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” When we live a prayerful life, God begins to transforms our heart. When we draw near Him, He will draw near us. We will see our nature changing. We get transformed into the likeness of Christ.

Discipline ourselves spiritually: Prov 4:23, “Keep your heart with all diligence,……”
Heb 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
Not only that, God has a promise for His children that choose to live a pure life in Proverbs 22: 11, “Proverbs 22:11,“He who loves purity of heart and has grace on his lips, The king will be his friend.” This verse simply means that we will have the favor of our superiors and authorities. What a blessing!

May the Lord give all of us the holiness that God desires and enable us to grow in holiness. In Jesus name, Amen.
