The Lord Jesus is opening the blind eyes everywhere. When He walked the face of the earth, He gave sight to the blind. He touched the eyes of the blind men and they were able to see. Jesus has not changed ever since. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

The Bible declares “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor: He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted. To proclaim liberty to the captive, And recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18).

Jesus was anointed to set the captives free. He was anointed to recover sight the spiritual eyes that were blind. Jesus wanted to give sight to people. Unless the Lord Jesus touches our spiritual eyes, they cannot see what He sees. Oh! How we need the Master’s touch in our lives every single moment!

The work of the enemy:

The adversary called the devil blinds the world. Most of the people living in the face of the earth are in spiritual blindness. The biggest block of humanity is in the blind category. The Bible says, “whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them” (2 Corinthians 4:4). The enemy is in the blinding business. The typical work of the enemy is depicted in a passage of scripture in the Old Testament.

1 Samuel 11: 1 and 2, we see that Nahash had a powerful army and was against the children of Israel. The men come to make a deal with Nahash. Nahash answered and said, “On this condition I will make a covenant with you, that I may put out all your right eyes, and bring reproach on all Israel” (1 Samuel 11:2). Why did Nahash (symbolic of the enemy) want to put out all the right eyes? Think about it for a moment. Without the eyes, you cannot see anything. Without the eyes the ability to perceive is not there in you. See, the enemy is crafty. He knows what to do to make you blind. Therefore, we need to be very alert and watchful. We need to resist the enemy all the time and he will flee from us.

We have blind (spiritually) people all around us. Our neighbors, coworkers and our relatives might fall in this category. Such people cannot see any thing that a believer could see in the spiritual context. So their eyes need to be opened in order for them to see the Light.

The work of the Lord:

Jesus is the one who opens the blind eyes. One of the reasons why Jesus came into this earth is to recover sight to the blind. The Lord says in Isaiah 42:7, “To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison…” Also in Vs 16 the Lord says, “I will bring the blind by a way they did not know”.

Jesus gives sight to the blind. We see Jesus healing a blind man at the pool of Bethesda. We read this in Mark 8:22-26. Jesus spat on the eyes of the blind man who was brought to him and put His hands on him. The man was able to see but not clearly. Jesus touched this man several times in order for him to see clearly. Then Jesus put His hands on him again and he could see everyone clearly. Here, the man needed a repeated touch from the Lord. His vision started improving.

This symbolically represents that when Jesus touches our eyes, we could see better and clearer. Only Jesus can give us 20/20 vision in our spiritual eyes.

The work of God’s children:

This is where you and I come into picture. Our part is to intercede. We see spiritually blind people everywhere. You cannot go to them and talk about the light of the gospel right away. It would make no sense to them. Like how a physically blind person cannot see the light, a spiritually blind person cannot see the light that is in the gospel of Jesus Christ. So what must we do? We need to pray that the Lord Jesus would open their blind eyes so that they could see. We might have to pray and fast because the Bible says that there are some evil spirits that would not leave except you pray and fast (Matthew 17:21)

Paul, the great apostle prayed a lot. He was a man of prayer. He knew how to intercede. Ephesians 1:17, 18 says, ” that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”

The eyes of our understanding need to be enlightened. It is so important that we have the ability to see what God sees. That is what should be our greatest concern. It really doesn’t matter where we come from. We need to see like God sees in order to go where God wants us to go. Therefore, it is so essential to pray for the eyes of our understanding.

May the Lord enlighten the eyes of our understanding in Jesus’ name. Amen.
