As a Christian, I have always wondered how the work of the enemy can still prevail in the life of a believer? If Satan was cast out of heaven long ago, how can he still occupy a place in the heavenly realm?
Job 2: 1-2 says that the Satan came with the angels to the Lord. The Bible declares in Job 1:6-7, “One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them. The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.” In the days of Job, Satan had access to the presence of the Lord.
When we read Revelation 12: 10-12, we notice that Satan has been hurled down. Satan is called “the accuser of the brethren”. Satan still has access to the presence of God, and he uses his access to accuse God’s people in the presence of God.
Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Notice the word “heavens”. When the great wise man Solomon prayed, he said, “But who is able to build a temple for him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him?”
In the New Testament, Paul says, I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know- God knows. And I know that this man-whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows – was caught up to Paradise. He heard inexpressible things, that a man is not permitted to tell.
Ephesians 4:10 says, “He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things”.
Here we see the word “all the heavens”. If the Bible said heavens, it is more than one. “All the heavens” means there could be at least three heavens.
The First heaven:
The first heaven is the one that we see with our eyes where the Sun, moon and the stars are there.
The Second heaven:
The second heaven is between the first and the third heaven. Here is where Satan’s kingdom is located. He operates from the second heaven. We infer that this intermediate heaven between the heaven of God’s dwelling place and the visible heaven that we see here on earth.
The Third heaven:
This is the heaven of God’s dwelling. Paul was taken to the third heaven. That is where God dwells.
When we pray, we are actually engaging in a spiritual warfare. Our prayers pierce through the head quarters of Satan and goes to the throne room of God. If every Christian realizes that, the prayers of God’s children could become so effective. The Bible says “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16).
God is looking for prayer warriors who will engage in the spiritual battle. The battle belongs to the Lord and the victory belongs to us. Many a time we need to fight the good fight of faith from our side to get the victory. The Lord of hosts is the chief captain of the army.
May the Lord help us to become prayer warriors in Jesus’ name.
